Staircases, balustrades & handrails
Sculptural, quiet and engineered to last — cut-string, cantilevered and curved staircases in oak, walnut and painted timber.
A staircase is the one piece of joinery a whole house is organised around — and the first thing a visitor touches.
We design, make and fit bespoke timber staircases as a single commission: the flight, the balustrade, the handrail and the newels, drawn together so the piece reads as one.
Every string, tread and baluster is set out full-size and shaped at the bench. We work from a survey and a full set of drawings, so the finished stair meets the floor, the wall and the eye exactly where it should.
Turned balustrades & newels
A traditional balustrade in rich mahogany — turned spindles, a heavy panelled newel and a moulded handrail, matched to the period of the house and made at the bench.

An open flight in solid oak, set into the light — treads, strings and balustrade drawn and made together so the stair reads as one clean sculptural line.

What this includes
Common questions
StaircasesDo you design the staircase, or work to an architect’s drawings?
Both. We design bespoke staircases from scratch, and we also make and fit to an architect’s or interior designer’s drawings, with our own detailing so the finished stair is safe and quiet underfoot.
What timbers do you use for staircases?
Most often oak, ash, walnut or painted tulipwood, with balustrades in timber, forged metal or frameless glass. We match the stair to the rest of the house.
Can you replace or repair a staircase in an older house?
Yes. We can replace a whole flight or make new parts — treads, strings, newels or a handrail — matched to an existing period stair.
