HI-MACS and Hanex solid surface, made in Poole
Reception desks, counters, vanity tops with moulded basins and wall cladding in HI-MACS® and Hanex®: fabricated in our Poole workshop with the joinery beneath them, and fitted by our own joiners.
We fabricate and install HI-MACS® and Hanex® solid surfaces, as well as Corian®, in our workshop in Poole: reception desks, counters, vanity tops with the basin moulded in, wall cladding and curved, heat-formed pieces. Each is made together with the joinery beneath it and fitted by our own joiners across Dorset and Hampshire.
HI-MACS® is the solid surface of LX Hausys, which writes it HIMACS; Hanex® is the solid surface of Hyundai L&C, distributed in the UK by Hanex UK. Like Corian®, both are non-porous materials that can be joined without a visible seam and heat-formed into curves, so a desk, a counter or a vanity top can be made as one continuous piece.
Because we make the joinery too, the surface and what sits beneath it are drawn and built together in one workshop. We are trained in solid-surface fabrication: the tops are cut, joined, heat-formed where they curve and finished by hand at the bench, then fitted with the cabinetry by the joiners who made it.

Reception desks and counters
A reception desk or a counter is leaned on, written on and wiped down all day, and solid surface is made for it: it is hard-wearing and non-porous, and a long top can be joined without a visible seam.
We have made a hotel reception desk with a seamless solid-surface top over a painted timber front, so the whole desk reads as one continuous piece. See bespoke reception desks and counters & serveries.

Basins and sinks moulded in
A sink or basin in solid surface can be bonded into the top, so the bowl and the surface read as one piece, with no rim and no seam to trap dirt.
That suits vanity units in hotels, spas, clinics and homes, where the top, the basin and the wall behind can wipe clean as one surface. See clinic & salon joinery.

HI-MACS® solid surface
HI-MACS is the solid surface of LX Hausys, which writes it HIMACS. LX Hausys describes it as smooth, non-porous and thermoformable: it resists moisture, bacteria and stains, it can be joined into large surfaces without visible joints, and it can be heat-formed into curves and three-dimensional shapes. Some colours let light through when lit from behind, and the surface can be restored if it is scratched.
We fabricate HI-MACS for reception desks and counters, vanity tops with the basin moulded in, wall cladding and curved, heat-formed pieces, and fit it with the joinery it sits on.
Hanex® solid surface
Hanex is the solid surface of Hyundai L&C, distributed in the UK by Hanex UK. Hanex UK describes it as non-porous and resistant to bacteria, mould, mildew and stains, and lists seamless jointing, 2D and 3D thermoforming and backlighting among the ways it can be worked; minor scratches can be buffed out.
We fabricate Hanex in the same way and for the same work: reception desks and counters, vanity tops with the basin moulded in, wall cladding and curved pieces, made together with the joinery beneath them.
What we make in HI-MACS, Hanex and Corian
Solid surfaceCorian, HI-MACS or Hanex?
As the brands describe them, all three are non-porous, can be joined into virtually seamless surfaces and can be heat-formed into curves. They differ in their colours and patterns, in their own sinks and basins, and in who makes them: Corian® comes from DuPont, HI-MACS® from LX Hausys and Hanex® from Hyundai L&C.
Which suits a job usually comes down to the colour and pattern you want, what the architect or designer has specified, and the detail the piece needs, and we show you samples before anything is made. HI-MACS, Hanex and Corian are the solid surfaces we use most; if a specification names another, such as Krion, Staron, Avonite or Tristone, ask us, as we can work with others too. For Corian, see Corian & solid surface.
How a project runs
From drawings to the final fitCommon questions
HI-MACS & HanexDo you fabricate and install HI-MACS?
Yes. We fabricate and install HI-MACS® (written HIMACS by its maker, LX Hausys) in our Poole workshop: reception desks and counters, vanity tops with the basin moulded in, wall cladding and curved, heat-formed pieces, made together with the joinery beneath them.
Do you work with Hanex solid surface?
Yes. We fabricate and install Hanex® in the same way and for the same kinds of work, and fit it with our own joiners across Dorset and Hampshire.
What is the difference between Corian, HI-MACS and Hanex?
All three are solid surfaces: as the brands describe them, each is non-porous, can be joined without a visible seam and can be heat-formed into curves. They differ in their colours and patterns, in their own sinks and basins, and in their makers: Corian® comes from DuPont, HI-MACS® from LX Hausys and Hanex® from Hyundai L&C. We help you choose by the look you want and what the piece has to do.
Can you work to our architect’s or designer’s specification?
Yes. If the drawings name HI-MACS, Hanex or Corian, we work in that material; if they name another solid surface, such as Krion, Staron, Avonite or Tristone, ask us. We add the workshop detailing that makes the piece buildable, and you approve set-out drawings and samples before anything is made.
Can solid surface be curved?
Yes. HI-MACS and Hanex can both be heat-formed into curves and three-dimensional shapes, so a curved desk front or counter can be made without a visible joint.
Is solid surface hygienic?
LX Hausys and Hanex UK describe their surfaces as non-porous and resistant to bacteria and stains, and as suited to healthcare and hospitality. Joined without a seam, a top, a basin and the wall cladding behind it leave nowhere for dirt to gather.
