The initial brief for this project was to design and build a stunning art deco cocktail cabinet at as Christmas gift for the client's husband. The cabinet was hand veneered with a walnut finish, along with a Corian worktop for added durability and resistance to penetration or damage by potential liquid spillages.
Upon completion of the art deco cocktail cabinet, the client explained how she wished to convert her existing living room into a library where herself and her husband could read and display their large collection of books.
Our team began designing floor to ceiling shelving that would provide adequate book storage and set the tone of a private library. Each shelf was hand veneered with the same walnut finish as the art deco cocktail cabinet, with added edging details to match the existing feature fireplace within the room.
To ensure that each wall was able to remain completely lined with library style book shelving, we painted the room's radiator black and designed a removable panel that would sit within the shelf itself, whilst still allowing the client access. Each solid wood shelf was fitted with lighting to help create an illusion of extra space within the new library, as well as drawing attention to and showcasing the client's impressive book collection.
Once all shelving was built and complete, the client was left with a fantastic, spacious library area which provides adequate storage, brilliant lighting and an outstandingly high quality finish to the hand veneered walnut shelves.
